You may still have to wait a while if you’ve been waiting for next-generation graphics cards that are more reasonably priced before upgrading. After all, “affordable” is a relative concept. However, a Brazilian reseller revealed a new Gigabyte model, suggesting that newer and less expensive AMD cards are on the horizon. The AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT is here.
Before removing the page, online retailer Terabyte momentarily displayed a Gigabyte version of the as-yet-unannounced card without a price. This GPU version has 2,048 stream processors, a Navi 44 chip, and 16 gigabytes of GDDR6 memory, according to VideoCardz.com. With just roughly 60% of the shaders and a less potent processor, it would have the same amount of RAM as the (supposedly) more costly RX 9070. The memory bus is a major unknown on the spec sheet; prior conjecture suggested that it would be 128-bit, half the width of the 9070.
With the more constrained memory bus on the specification sheet, we saw both 8GB and 16GB models of the 9060 XT back in March. However, according to some sources, the 8GB model of the card has been discontinued. That makes sense given how much emphasis is placed on higher memory needs for PC gaming, particularly for mid-range graphics cards. However, a lot of PC gamers are simply being priced out of upgrades due to a combination of poor availability, increased prices, and other economic considerations.
Retail listings typically signal an upcoming announcement, but there are a lot of factors at play, so it’s also possible that launches are being postponed. We’ll simply have to wait and find out.
