By Compromise is a common theme in Chromebook deals. However, I do not believe there are any compromises at all with the two Chromebooks that are on sale for Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days: They’re both solid Chromebooks for less than $200.
Two were available on Amazon: the slightly less expensive Asus Chromebook CX1 for $189.99 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 3i for $199.99.
If you have followed my coverage of Chromebook deals over the years, you are aware of my approach: while I search for a “decent” processor, my main priorities are 8GB of RAM and a screen that is at least 1080p. Most processors, in my opinion, are more than capable of handling web pages; nevertheless, the speed at which your Chromebook switches between tabs depends on how much memory it has; this can slow down your experience. I also have misgivings about 768p screens since they have a grainy quality that can make you squint. These two Chromebooks satisfy both requirements. For many years to come, they need to get updates as well.
I also look for deals with a $200 price reduction, though it can be difficult to ask for outside-of-sale days. These two Chromebooks are actually more affordable now than some of the less expensive models in our roundup of Prime Day Chromebook discounts! That is great because it confirms to me that these bargains are real. Another testament to both’s quality is their excellent Amazon ratings.
With their roomy and cozy 15.6-inch screens, both Chromebooks are quite similar. But the Asus lacks a touchscreen, whereas the Lenovo has one. Asus guarantees 11 hours of battery life, while Lenovo claims 10 hours. I also find that Lenovo keyboards are slightly better, but that is just me.
In summary, I believe that both options will satisfy you, and the affordable cost should complete the package. A lot of the Prime Day discounts fall short of my criteria. These do. Seize them!
