Samsung has revealed its first OLED monitor, which is not specifically aimed at bestcomputerfinder, ahead of CES 2025. The Odyssey gaming line’s popularity is being brought closer to the general public with the Smart Monitor M90SF’s OLED, a first for these devices. Both producing and watching HDR material is important for people who want to do so.
Additionally, it makes sense since the Smart Monitor M9 is designed to be a hub for entertainment. The M9 functions as a small television on your desk and, like earlier models like the Smart Monitor M80B, does not need a PC to run content. It comes with a remote control for easy operation, Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Game Hub, and almost all the streaming apps you could need.
Although the Smart Monitor M9’s complete specs are still pending, we do know that it boasts a 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 165 Hz. When you need it, the display can also be used as a gaming monitor, an improvement over the 60Hz models we have seen thus far. One thing is certain, though: it is designed to accomplish everything. We will not know if it is one of the greatest displays available.
Samsung’s single image suggests that the Smart Monitor M9 has a new appearance as well, with reduced side bezels and rounded corners. The screen’s frame is now only 9.9mm thick, or 0.35 inches because it is an OLED monitor. For comparison, that is a bit thicker than an iPhone 16.
According to Samsung’s press release, the Smart Monitor M9 also has some new on-device AI functions, such as AI that analyzes “input signals to determine the sort of information being seen” and optimizes picture quality based on the type of content. AI is also being used to recognize game genres and “fine-tune image settings to give an ideal and immersive experience for every playstyle.” Similar tasks are being performed for games.
Finally, the AI 4K Upscaling feature on the Smart Monitor M9 has a “Pro” version that can “convert lower-resolution video up to 4K quality,” provided that it originates from the Samsung Gaming Hub or the built-in Smart TV apps. Samsung claims that the AI evaluates “input signals and current image data” to produce sharper images “with increased detail, independent of the original resolution.” I am not clear what makes this version of its upscaling more sophisticated.
Although Samsung has not disclosed the new Smart Monitor M9’s price or availability, it is important to note that it will probably cost more than the previous models. The OLED M9 unquestionably places itself at the top of the stack, but Samsung offers a whole range of smart monitors, from 27-inch 1080p versions to 32-inch 4K alternatives (and even a 43-inch model).
