By A year has passed since we last saw a new graphics card decked out in the distinctive brown hues of Noctua. However, the RTX 50-series improvement that many have been anticipating is almost here. In a new video, the Asus GeForce RTX 5080‘s official “Noctua Edition” is thoroughly explained. Only two things are lacking: a date and a price.
As it enters its third generation, the latest Asus-Noctua collaboration, the RTX 5080, is a bit more subdued than its predecessors. One chevron and a few ever-so-small ring ornaments on either side provide a little extra flair to the enormous triple-fan cooler. (Of course, it makes me think of owls.)
In case you were wondering, those fans are 25mm wide Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 fans. Due to its substantial dimensions of 385 mm in length and 80 mm in width, it necessitates four open PCIe slots on both your motherboard and chassis. As Harry Harrison once said, “Make Room! Make Room!”
Because all that cooling requires at least 850 watts from your power supply, the boost frequency is 2700 MHz (or 2730 MHz at the very maximum overclock), which is a slight increase over the 2620 MHz boost of the default RTX 5080. However, the triple Noctua fans’ enormous cooling capacity does offer some additional choices, such as simply shutting them off at temperatures below 50°C for quiet operation under light loads.
Although the exact cost of all of this is unknown, “a lot” is a safe guess given that Asus Noctua Edition cards already fetch a high price even when compared to other exorbitant “custom” cards.
