When you open Addlink’s P30 portable USB4 SSD, the first thing you’ll notice is how small it is. It’s also a pretty tiny creature, even though it’s not really big enough to display it completely. Additionally, it’s lightweight and economical.
Features
The P30 is a minuscule USB4 SSD that is only 2.5 inches square and roughly 0.5 inches thick. With the supplied 5-inch, 40Gbps Type-C to Type-C cable, it weighs 2.1 ounces, compared to just 1.9 ounces when used alone. In contrast to many vendors, Addlink disclosed the precise controller and NAND that are contained within: a 162-layer Kioxia BiCS6 TLC (Triple-Level Cell/3-bit) NAND and a Phison PS2251-21. Many thanks, everyone!
If you’re not familiar, TBW is terabytes written, and represents how much data you can write to the drive before it goes into read/write mode. Note that TBW is a worst-case estimate, and part of a financial liability formula. You might get a lot more — out of warranty.
What is the price of the Addlink P30?
The P30 costs $89.44 (tested) for a 1TB capacity and $158.44 for a 2TB capacity. For USB4, that is incredibly reasonable. Actually, it costs around half as much as the highly regarded Adata SE920.
Naturally, the SE920 is nearly twice as quick when handling higher volumes of data, but our test P30 was somewhat limited because it was a 1TB device with less secondary cache than its competitor.
What is the Addlink P30’s speed?
It was enjoyable to test the P30 after a recent wave of compatibility problems with Sandisk and WD (Sandisk). Both devices responded well and produced a comparatively smooth performance. However, because it had only a 1TB disk, it did occasionally run out of steam during our write tests for 48GB and 450GB.
In the big picture, the P30 is still fairly quick, even though it isn’t as quick as other larger drives (thermal considerations are undoubtedly a factor). The P30 outperformed the Corsair EX400U, a similar design, as you can see below, despite some lag in CrystalDiskMark 8’s sequential testing.
Is it good to purchase the Addlink P30?
Go ahead and do it, I say. This little P30, which is naturally magnetically linked, has found a place in both my heart and one of my laptops. Addlink beans are cool, affordable (for USB4), and incredibly portable.
However, you will need to pay more money on an SSD, like the often-mentioned Adata SE920, if you want top 40Gbps performance.
