Release date, new features, Apple Intelligence enhancements, and more for macOS Sequoia

Release date, new features, Apple Intelligence enhancements, and more for macOS Sequoia

Known as macOS Sequoia, Apple unveiled the most recent version of the operating system during its WWDC 2024 developer conference.

Although we had anticipated a plethora of new AI functions in this macOS Sonoma successor, Apple’s improvements are a little more understated. From Safari to the Messages app, the company’s new Apple Intelligence suite of services reaches all the nooks and crannies of Sequoia. It appears that there will be improvements to Apple Intelligence everywhere you look.

With these new features, macOS now matches the plethora of new Windows 11 laptops that are powered by Qualcomm’s highly anticipated new Snapdragon X Plus or Snapdragon X Elite CPUs and offer new AI-focused Copilot+ features. Are they going to be good enough to become popular?

MACOS SEQUOIA: RELEASE DATE

Apple developers who meet the requirements can now download the beta version of macOS Sequoia.

If you truly can not wait to see the upcoming macOS version, a public beta will be available soon, but for the majority of people, it is advisable to wait until the final version launches this autumn.

Apple has stated that Apple Intelligence features will only formally go live in the fall of 2024, even though they might already be available in beta form. Furthermore, Macs with an M-series chip inside are the only machines that can use Apple Intelligence.

This implies that to utilize Apple Intelligence in macOS Sequoia, your Mac must have an Apple M1 chip or later. Consequently, any Mac that is older than 2020 is ineligible for this benefit.

MACOS SEQUOIA: SUPPORTED MACS

As previously mentioned, Macs with an M-series chip inside are the only ones that can utilize the Apple Intelligence features in macOS Sequoia. To fully benefit from Sequoia, your Mac must be released with an M1 or higher internal processor.

MACOS SEQUOIA: NEW FEATURES

With Apple integrating its new Apple Intelligence package of AI technologies into everything, macOS Sequoia is set to get a ton of new features, including a plethora of minor tweaks in different programs.
The following is a summary of the main new features that macOS Sequoia will bring:

Apple Intelligence: As part of macOS Sequoia, Apple is integrating its new AI features, which let users do things like take notes and take photos while chatting with pals or creating text recommendations when sending letters.

Phone Mirroring: This is a new Continuity feature that lets you use your Mac to watch and even operate the screen of your linked iPhone from a distance. ith the help of this feature, your macOS dock will have a new control icon that will open a screen that displays your iPhone’s screen at the proper size. This gives you the added convenience of using your Mac’s trackpad and keyboard while using the phone digitally. Additionally, the Standby feature has been improved to allow iPhone Mirroring and offer more features when using your Mac and your phone on standby.

iPhone alerts: When you click on an iPhone notification while iPhone Mirroring is active, macOS Sequoia will automatically open the iPhone in a mirrored screen and launch the app that delivered it. iPhone alerts will now appear on your Mac alongside your regular macOS notifications.

Layouts: Similar to Windows 11’s Snap Layouts feature, macOS Sequoia boasts an enhanced customization option that allows it simply to drag and drop app windows into pre-selected arrays. It appears to be a simple method of dragging and dropping windows into layouts that have already been created.

Mail: New tools that leverage Apple Intelligence allow you to rewrite text in multiple tones, create poetry, condense lengthy lines, and more. Additionally, there is a new feature called Smart Reply that provides pre-written email responses in addition to pop-up buttons that can be clicked to generate answers to the email’s inquiries.

Additionally, new AI-generated summaries will be available in the Inbox in place of the customary summary of the subject line or first phrase.

Passwords: With on-device encryption, the New Passwords app makes sure all of your passwords sync safely across all devices. It even syncs to Windows 11 machines by downloading the necessary iCloud software.
