ASRock claims that the updated BIOS fixes the Ryzen 9000 CPU difficulties.

It can be a terrifying experience to shell out almost $1,000 for the newest and most potent CPU, particularly if you’ve heard that it has some problems with purportedly compatible motherboards. This appears to be the case with AMD Ryzen 9000 chips and ASRock AM5 motherboards, which have been experiencing an unusually high number of problems. The good news is that ASRock claims that the most recent BIOS fixes those problems.

Granted, ASRock doesn’t appear to be very eager to discuss it. We received the BIOS update from ASRock through PC Gamer, an Australian tech YouTuber called Tech YES City. Additionally, it seems that they had to address it in person at the company’s booth on the Computex exhibition floor.

Ultimately, however, the problem was caused by an amperage issue with ASRock’s UEFI/BIOS program’s Precision Boost Overdrive function. It should be fixed in the most recent update for motherboards with AM5, at least according to ASRock’s in-person personnel.

At the time of writing, all Ryzen 9000-series CPUs impacted by this problem ought to be covered under warranty; however, many AM5 motherboards are past the typical one-year period. (One of the reasons to choose AMD over Intel is the ease and consistency of upgrades between CPU generations.) If your motherboard fails—or AMD determines it isn’t at fault throughout the RMA process—good luck.
